Walk-in centres

NHS Walk-in Centre (WIC) provides easy access to a range of treatment. Shares are managed by primary care trusts (PCTs). There are approximately 93 centers in England, dealing with minor illnesses and injuries.

These include:

  • infection and skin rash,
  • fractures and lacerations,
  • emergency contraception and advice
  • stomach,
  • cuts and bruises, and
  • burns and strains.


Shares NHS is generally controlled by a nurse and is accessible to all. Patients do not need an agreement. Most centers are open 365 days a year outside of office hours. Some newly opened centers may offer different opening hours during their first month.
Shares NHS treatment around three million patients each year and proved to be a complementary service to traditional favorites GP and A & E services. Some offer access NHS Shares of doctors and nurses. But they are not designed to handle long-term conditions or problems immediately life threatening.
